Festival of Lights

7th November 2019

We were so lucky today to be able to take part in the Festival of Light at Durham's County Hall.  As one of only 10 schools in the whole of the North East, St Michael's took ten children from Year 5/6 by train for an exciting trip to Durham.  At the event, we met children from a variety of schools and learned about the six major world faiths from faith leaders representing: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism.  The children completed a fact-finding activity, handled artefacts, asked questions, created artwork, tasted food, smelled incense, learned a dance, played board games and had a lot of fun.  Mrs Snowdon Lord Lieutenant of County Durham was in attendance too.  The children will now act as ambassadors to share this knowledge with their friends back at school.
