King's Day 2016
27th April 2016
A little bit of Holland comes to Alnwick
St Michael's was turned orange this week as we celebrated King's Day. This is a festival from the Netherlands which celebrates the King's birthday. The whole country dresses up in orange - the Dutch National Colour and has a great party. Celebrating King's day in school encourages the children to learn about other people and cultures from around the world. As well as dressing up we at a special 'orange' lunch including carrots, swede and orange cake! We also held a table-top sale which was organised and run by our Year 4 children. They collected books, toys and games and sold them in the yard. This follows the tradition in Holland where for one day only people can sell whatever they want!!
The Year 4 children made a whopping £148 to support school and also raised money for the end-polio now campaign in collaboration with Rotakids.
A great day was had by all.
